We each had a crab cake- always a good litmus test. My wife had the Golden Beet with goat cheese was exceptional- she wants to try this at Thanksgiving. I tried the yellow pepper soup-very unusual and delicious. We never knew you could eat them and will now try this one at home. First we were served a tempura Day Lilly. She seated us on the veranda, just off the garden. We were served by Cindy who was so attentive and kind, but never hovered. We sat out on the lawn for some Virginia wine. Dinner was a real surprise, in the best sense of the word. It is really the "old Virginia" that we love. The grounds are beautiful and we would love to return for a weekend. She was wide-eyed as we turned up the drive. It was recommended by friends of ours whose farm was once part of Meander. I surprised my wife with dinner at Meander to celebrate our 10 Wedding anniversary. All of the ingredients were the freshest possible and most were from. The Virginia dessert wine was perfectly paired. The grand marnier souffle for dessert was the most perfect we have had. For entrees, my wife had wild Marlin- just flown in. Just enough bread to hold it together and all crab. The scenery alone was breathtaking and we plan to book with them again when it's nice out so we can enjoy the 80 acres the Plantation sits on.I surprised my wife with dinner at Meander to celebrate our 10 Wedding anniversary. The entire experience was amazing!!! The officiant did a beautiful job and was extremely pleasant, Suzanne not only took pictures but also took a video of our vows, champagne and the cake was delicious, and dinner was to die for!!!! Our room was very nice and cozy!!! We had a fire place and since it was cold we put it to good use! A wonderful breakfast was included in our stay the next morning! I would highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone that enjoys a quiet stay. We booked the elopement package on a Thursday and also booked the Robinson Room for one night. I asked for a nonreligious ceremony and booked the elopement package which included the officiant, bridal bouquet, grooms boutineer, a small wedding cake, champagne, a few pictures taken by Suzanne which she gave us on CD, and dinner. The innkeeper Suzanne and I emailed back and forth for a couple of months before I decided that this would be the best place for us. The one place that always stuck out to me was a bed and breakfast 4 hours away from NC called the Inn at Meander Plantation. I looked online for elopement packages near my area. My husband joined the Navy this year and while he was at bootcamp and "A" school in Illinois I was left to plan a wedding in NC. I think that we got a very small glimpse of southern life at the time of the Revolution. We roamed Meander's grounds, hiked to the river and visited the horses. Suzanne and Suzie were helpful and congenial hosts, patient with our questions and our two silly dogs. Starched white table cloths, good bed linens and new, comfortable seating provide a kind of opulence in the old home. The bed was great, the fireplaces kept us cozy and warm. In spite of its age and its quirks, Meander is very comfortable and welcoming. The occasional cracks in the walls and sloping floors demonstrate that these beautiful buildings have been part of this historic community for well over 200 years. Meander Plantation is the real is very old. George Washington (and his troops) really did sleep here. As you come up the long driveway to this mansion on a hill, it fells like you are going back in time to an earlier America, to be part of the history that is so present in this part of Virginia. My husband and I (together with our two Golden Retrievers) spent four nights in the Summer Kitchen at Meander Plantation as part of our trip to the Charlottesville area.
